Anyone who says teach me guitar! or I want to learn guitar! needs to ask themselves the question just how much do I want to learn guitar? That is because there is going to be a price to pay in terms of some capital outlay and a good deal of commitment in time and effort for learning and in getting the practice needed when learning to play guitar.

Teach me guitar in 3 weeks! It can’t and it won’t happen. The only way there is of learning to play guitar is with a consistent dedication to learn and practice. That means learn a little then practice a lot. Learn a little more and then practice a lot more. But this all has to be in bite size chunks. Initially a commitment to perhaps a solid focused half hour a day with your guitar and your learning resource will be a good foundation and will acclimatise your hands and fingers to the unnatural positions and stresses placed on them in learning to play guitar.

It is of course great to keep the goal of I want to learn guitar very much in your focus when learning to play guitar. But that enthusiasm can push the new guitar player to play and practice for longer periods than the suggested half hour, so there has to be some caution here. In the first days of learning to play guitar it is very common for the student to complain of aching hands and sore guitar fingers. There has to be an initial period of adjustment and toughening up of the arms and hands but particularly so for the fingers for you to continue learning to play guitar comfortably.

So how long will it take to teach me guitar? The answer to that depends on many variables. However, a keen student who has a good tutor or an excellent guitar course to follow, should with half an hour of practice a day show significant progress in six months or so. Thereafter it will be a case of the more you practice the better you get. There is no end point. Learning to play guitar is a lifetime’s journey. However the more you play the better you get, the better you get the more you want to play!

So, teach me guitar. I want to learn guitar – OK here’s where the price you pay is quoted in dollars, the value received in exchange for those dollars is totally dependent upon how you make use of the teaching those dollars have bought you!
